I want to put up a storm door on the front of my house. I have about a 3 inch door jam which i think is just enough for the storm door to fit in. This means when the storm door is installed it will be about an inch or a little more away from house door. I was thinking with 3 inches that leaves no room for the hydrolic piece which pulls the door shut to attach to.
Any thoughts on what I can do?

You need a minimum of 2 1/2" for the door closer between the doors. You may have to build the storm door out to give you the space you need.

Remember also, storm doors are commonly installed on the brickmold or trim on the outside of the frame. They do have inside mount kits, but they aren't nearly as common back east as they are out here in the land of stucco...lol.

I just realized that you are in MA where they use "New England Z Bars" since many older homes have only 3/4" brick-mold. With this, you can pick-up 1/2" between the doors. Go to a local window and door company or maybe it's common enough in MA that HD may have them.
