We are currently working on our new house (1925 Colonial in Ohio). In the bathroom there is a cabinet set into the wall with 2 doors hung on non-standard sized typical door hinges (with a removable pin).

Well being the genius that I am, I decided to replace the hinges because they were old, rusty, and had about 4 layers of old paint on them. Problem was all the hinges I could find were just a tad too big or too small. So I bought a set that was too big, and tried to make them fit (filled the non-center holes with golf tee's held in by epoxy the whole bit).

Problem is it didn't center right and now the doors don't hang correctly, and worse the set I bought was so cheap that the screw heads literally came off, so there is about 1" of screw in 2 of the holes with no head.

I personally want to just put a small drape over the opening and forget the doors (they are kind of inconvenient) but my girlfriend isn't going for it.

What alternatives do I have? How can I fix the mistake I made or what other method of mounting doors can I attempt? I am not really that handy, I can do the easy stuff but the more complicated it is and the more specialized tools required the less likely I am able to do it.

Thank you!

OK, you changed hinges. By "a tad too big or too small" I'm assuming that you mean the screw didn't line up. You filled 2 out of the three holes. (I would have used toothpicks, or some othe sliver of leftover wood and wood glue rather than epoxy, but whatever.) And then "it didn't center right" -- WHAT didn't center right?? And when you talk about 'cheap screws' -- we can all relate to that! But, were you trying to drive the screws into some part of the epoxy?? (THAT'S why I would have used wood glue -- it's softer!)

The hinges you have are probably fine. Just go to a hdwr store and buy some screws that are the proper size with the proper head and move the hinges to a different location so that you are missing ALL of the screw holes. That means you need to move them up or down about 1/4".
