I would like to install insulation around the two rooms on the second floor of my cape code home. The rooms have had no previous insulation and the house was built in 1926. I've noticed by crawling into the crawl space aroud the rooms that there is open space all the way around. The two sides with the windows will prove to be quite a challenge to get to and I was wondering how I would go about insulating those two sides?? I've thought about cellulose but the space seems that it would be too large to completely fill and its too small to crawl in to.
I suppose as a last resort I could take out the old lath and plaster and hang fiberglass between the joists... I really hope someone has a more efficient idea they wouldn't mind sharing!

Hi ms_hammer, some pictures would help with specifics. In PA you will need all the insulation you can get. I have a cape as well, but sounds like my side attics are larger. I used a combination of insulation in the side attics and some over the surface of the slopes with a new layer of sheetrock. I did not remove the old, just added a new layer of 2" rigid.
