Does anyone have any experience building a heat shield behind a wood stove.
We have 1/2 sheetrock on a studded wall, then 1/4 inch cement board which we intended to cover with ceramic tile. Found out it might not be safe, if we put another 1/2 cement board on top of the 1/4 then the ceramic tile is that enough of a barrier or do we have to have an air space between them. If so, will the 1/2 cement board covered with ceramic tile hanging a inch from the wall, actually not fall done from all the weight? Any help on this issue would be appreciated. Thanks

Here are a couple images of the best way to build a non combustible heat shield behind a wood stove. 1/2" cement backer board can be used for the heat shield and if properly attached with spacers will support the ceramic tile.
