I'm in the Chicago area and just core aerated my lawn. Is it to late in the season now to overseed the lawn then put down the winter fertilizer?
Would it be better to winterize the lawn now, then over seed in the spring?

Where you are you could be late or right at the wire as the seed needs to be established before you are raking leaves on it or leaves are setting on it for periods of time etc.Check with a local independent garden center or hardware store with good help as they will know if you still have time.
As for fertilizing, the best product to put down with seed is starter fertilizer.winter formulas are used later in the season such as Nov Dec Jan period and that timing would coincide with around 2-3 months before applying pre-emergent crabgrass plus fertilizer products put down in very late winter or early spring.Where you are it would probably be Dec and then March.
