I am on a deep(very deep 850 feet) well, and I have some odor in my water. I currently have a Macclean softener that seems to be taking care of all of my problems except for the odor. I have no staining, the PH is 7.2, and the water is soft after it runs through the softener, but I still have the smell. It isn't terrible, but annoying. It seems to smell more like a metallic iron smell rather than rotten eggs/sulphur. I don't remember all of the numbers on the test that was done at the well source, but I do remember the guy saying I had clear water iron at a rate of 6ppm. Of course I was given a quote of over $3000.00 for his equipmenet to correct the problem, but I have also been given other solutions as well too....all of them very expensive. Of course since I keep getting different answers to the same question of what I need to solve my problem when I ask the local water professionals, the more confused I get. Does anyone on here have an opinion as the best solution? Of course I would like an inexpensive solution, but I don't mind to spend what I NEED to...... I just want to solve the problem.

I would get your water sample to a certified lab and see if you have iron and at what levels. You might also test for tannins, just for the halibut.
Along with pH, alk and hardness, see if the lab can test for iron concentration.
Soluble or clear water iron can be identified after you pour a glass of cold, clear water into a glass. After 20 minutes, see if reddish brown particles have settled at the bottom. That is clear water iron.
Insoluble or red water iron will show right away if poured into a glass and will appear rusty or red-yellow. You can have a taste issue here. Not sure about odor.
More info needed before someone can come up with a solution.

Yes Yadda, that is exactly what happens. The water is crystal clear when it comes out, then turns orange. I am working on better testing done. thanks

Sounds to me as if the resin needs to be cleaned. Go to a grocery store to the cleaning isle and look of Super Iron Out. Follow the directions.
