Hello, How do I disconnect the power units on the power board. I know not to touch the tube due to shock. I want to replace the control board for the VCR and DVD. Unit shuts off immediately after power up, locked in shut off mode of VCR.
Best Regards,
Ted

The problem is the system mode sensor assymbly under the vcr .The contacts have corroded and need to be cleaned. This is mostly a mechanical job. Most shops won't take it if you tried to DIY and mess it up.But if you want to try let me know.

Hello craftsman_50,
Yes I'd like to try to fix this TV. I'm having trouble disconnecting the power complex on the left rear of the board assembly so I can turn the boards over to examine the area under the VCR.
Best Regards,
Ted

OK,remove the screws holding the vcr chasis to the tv chassis.Note that along with the top screws there are 2 on the underside of the main board. This will allow the vcr chassis to just seperate enough to get to the switch. The swith will be just under the big gear near the front of the vcr.It will be round and mounted to the main chassis. It does not look like a normal switch. It will have a spike on it that fits into a hole on the big gear.CAREFULLY pop the top off the switch and you will be able to see the contacts. This switch travels in a circle.the contacts should be bright silver, but yours will look dark like tarnished silver gets.I use the pencel type erasers that can be sharpened to a point to clean the contacts. When you have the contacts clean, pop the plastic top back on and alighn the spike so it will fit into the hole on the gear on the vcr chassis.Mount the vcr and circuit board back together and the tv should power up and stay on now.
