this past summer I was told that red thread was a bad problem in my area, ive been told that treating it could do more damage than good. On that note it is speading all over my yard and i dont want to lose my grass to disease. can anybody inform me on a safe cure .

To cure it, stop watering in the evening. If you are watering in the afternoon or evening (before midnight) you are just inviting disease. Water after 3am and you should be fine.
