Hello-

Does anyone have opinion/information on Pratt and Lambert's Redseal Line of interior paints? My local Orchard Supply Hardware carry's that line and it's on sale now. My other choice was BM Regal interior latex paint. I'm considering using it to paint my kids room. The existing wall sheen is flat, but I'm wondering if something different like an eggshell sheen would be better. P&L has sheens called "velvet" and "satin". Not sure how those would look in a bedroom. Not sure if BM has comparable sheens either. Any suggestions on this?

Thanks,

Christie

I'm not overly familiar with P&L paints but what I have used seemed to be decent paint.
Enamels are easier to clean than flat paint and would be a good choice for a child's room. Satin or eggshell is one of the lower sheens of enamel and is available with most paint brands although the actual amount of sheen may vary between brands. Unless I'm mistaken, velvet is also a low sheen.

Red Seal is a good middle of the road paint line.Accolade is far better but costs considerably more.I'd put Red Seal up against any similarly priced national paint lines but don't know BM well enough to compare specifics.

If I'm remembering correctly Red Seal has more traditional sheens and Accolade has the "velvet" sheen. As Marksr said essentially, the more sheen the easier clean especially in a child's room or other situations that might need regular cleaning.

I've sold Red Seal.Depending on the market it often doesn't get the attention it deserves (low income areas gravitate toward silver or gold label which is contractor/low end paint and high income gravitates to Accolade).

Thank you all for your responses. I think I'll give it a try. I know most paint brands have various lines of paint with differing quality/price points. Just wondering if P&L Redseal line is equivalent to say Behr Premium paint line? In which case, am I just paying for the label, not the paint quality.

Thanks again,

Christie

Frankly I wouldn't compare a big box brand with a brand like P&L.the philosophy behind the two brands couldn't be more different.Big box paint is formulated to meet a price point first and a quality level second.Higher end name brands and the higher end product levels of major names in paint are formulated to meet a quality level and a performance level and are then priced accordingly with an added imput of ingredient costs.Behr is esswentially Home Depot's store brand while P&L is sold in mostly independent retailers who value quality and service as a competative edge to the big box stores.

If there is any real comparison of the two product lines it is that red seal would probably be somewhat comparable to a higher end Behr.I'm not very well versed on which Behr lines are considered by them to be high end and would honestly doubt a Behr product would have the durability and longevity of a P&L or any other major name in paint's comparable product.
