Hello, first time user here, hopefully in the right spot:)

I am in the process of rebuilding our shower. I have used hardibacker on all the walls and the ceiling. I was going to originally tile the ceiling but, I am entertaining just prepping and painting the ceiling. I have one seam on the ceiling that I need to finish out to prepare for priming and painting. Normally, I would use modified thinset and fiberglass tape to mend the seams but I do not think I would get a smooth enough finish to prime and paint. Any suggestions on how to finish the seam so It will look good and function well in the shower stall?

Thanks
Bob

Are you going to texture the ceiling? If not, you will want to apply a skim coat of drywall compound over the hardiebacker, sand it, then prime and paint. Do not attempt to thinset the seam. Use regular drywall compound.

OK, cool. I had considered a light texture for the simple fact that the hardiebacker fasteners do not "counter-sink" into the wallboard. The concern I had was how well the regular joint compound would hold up long term in the shower area. I do have good ventalation but, I really don't want to be re-doing this project over :)

Thanks for the Reply

IMO it would be better to use a setting compound like durabond - it's not watersoluable..... but it's hard to sand so it pays to apply it neatly!
