Has anyone ever used auto trans fluid to seal a pine fence? I had a painter suggest using it and was just curious about the look and how well it waterproofed.

I don't think that I would use transmission fluid on a fence. There are alot of additives in it that may come back to haunt you down the road in a year or two when it is time to paint or restain. I would use 100% Linseed Oil. That way you are sure you are safe. It may be fine, but I would be hesitate doing it on my fence. Good Luck

Bad idea. Not ALL of it would soak into the wood. Rain would wash the rest of it off and into the ground. That's called pollution!!
There are plenty of good sealers available, including the linseed oil that Jack mentioned. Use one of them

Not only polluting the ground from run off but what about the smell ,when the heat and humidity gets to it in the summer that would stick like a wrecking yard does in the summer, maybe a good smell to a mechanic but I don`t think your neighbours would appreciate it.
