Hi, I've just finished stripping my 42 " fir front door. The door is somewhat protected by a small alcove leading up to the front door.
What is the best finish I could put on the door? I live in Oregon so there is a lot of moisture in the winter months.
Thanks, Oregon Boy

Either a good marine varnish, or spar urethane should do the job well. If your staining first, make sure the stain has had adequate time to set up. Do several coats, and lightly sand between them with a light grit sand paper (220 ish) between coats.

A good enamel will always outlast an clear coating on an exposed exterior door - it just doesn't look as nice. Minwax's Helmsman [spar urthane] is probably the easiest coating to find. 3 coats should be sufficent, don't forget to appply 1 coat on the top and bottom of the door. Sun and rain are the 2 hardest things on the coating so expect to lightly sand and recoat often - maybe every year.
