I want to know if I got ripped off. I paid $15,500 for a 4-ton xl19i with variable speed air handler. Clean air effects. The system has two zones, with programmable thermostat. The installation was new construction. Also the total sq. ft. is 3000 sq. ft. in New Orleans. Is the unit the right size? I need to know before the labor warranty runs out.

Your contractor would have done a heat load on the home to know what size to install he should have this. 15K could be in line for what you have. Are you having problems? why do you think it may not be the right size?

the unit seems like it is straining to keep up with the heat load. I think should have been a 5-ton. Do you think I need to get a heat load test from another HVAC contractor? I think I will. I also have been ready that one of these units should cost around $9000. I'm thinking I got soaked.

yes 9k for a replacement. But you have zone controllers and duct work.

i think $5500 would be considered too high for ductwork/controller labor and material.

Four zones is a lot of duct-work, not sure what the rates are in your area. I don't think you got hosed at all. With four zones cycling on and off, that unit will run almost constantly. Four tons would be in the ballpark for a house that size. May be lacking in the insulation department. Can't tell without a load calculation.

why did they not install the 20i due to the phase out of r22 units also i would get the 10 yr parts and labor warranty through trane extended warranty
