Got a rust bucket here. 1985 Ford F250 4x4.
I just replaced a rear steel brake line & bled the rear brakes. I was going to take a short test drive.
I got about 20 feet & wouldn't you know another brake line popped! (this time the one that follows the cross member under the motor to the passenger side caliper).
So I replaced that line.
Then I got ready to bleed the front brakes... & I can not find a bleed screw!
On the caliper (passenger side) next to where the brake hose mounts, there is a 1/4" rusty hole where maybe the bleed screw maybe used to be, but has I guess totally rusted away.
I checked the drivers side caliper, & there it looks like some sort of pin is stuck in that hole. but no evidence of a hex head bleed screw like I expect to see.
I was thinking short of replacing the caliper, I could crack the brake hose connection & try to get the air out of the line from that spot.
What cha think?
Am I missing something?
Thanks

you are probably on the right track-the bleeders are rusted away.
i guess it is worth a try to get some-most of the air out at the hose connection-get some one to help-push pedal down-hold it down-while you loosen/tighten bolt-is it not rusted away also?
also look at the flex hose where it is crimped to the steel tube going yo the caliper, that is a common place to fail from rust-same with the rear flex line.
another thought-i have seen calipers put on the wrong side-that puts the bleeder on the bottom

Ok, The brakes are bled.
I cracked them at the hose connection to the calipers while my kid worked the pedal.
The drag is that I wasn't able to use the vacuum bleed kit I had bought a few months ago...
But the truck stops.

Yep, Don't worry, you won't see this thing down your way.
It's just going to go in circles on my 50 acres & plow the lane come winter.
No leaks anywhere else at the moment. The hoses all look dry.
I expect to have trouble with the remaining steel lines first.
Thanks.
