Just (two days ago) purchased a used Starcraft boat and have no reverse. It will go into forward and works fine but when i shift to reverse nothing happens,the motor will rev up but the prop does not turn ! It is a V 191 with a v-8 230 hp motor 1982,83 or 84 !
Any help would be appreciated !!

With the boat on the trailer and motor off shift it into reverse. You should be able to move the prop in one direction and will hear clicks. It should lock if you try to spin it the other way.

It could be as simple as a shift cable adjustment or replacement, but if the bearing carrier in the lower unit gets pushe back it could be a gearcase problem.

I will try that and see what happens. Hopefully it just needs adjustment !
