We are going to put in new kitchen cabinets. We are going modern contemporary and are having some different things done than the usual for our cabinet maker. Omega and it's Dynasty line are probably what we are going with but we need some help. To add to the style we are having some of our doors swing up and need some cylinders to keep the doors in place. They don't do this for us but give us this option to have it done. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what would work well? Thanks.

There are mechanical gadgets as well as gas cylinders for many applications. Check rockler.com, they have lots of such things. But if you are having custom cabinets done, why not let them finish the job???

Because they don't do the swing up cabinets with a cylinder like that. We have to find our own.

The terminology would generally be "lid support".there are a variety.Generally they are used to support and control the opening and closing of a top to a child's toy box and/or a table leaf or desk leaf to a piece of furniture.

A later version, the "toy box" idea, would probably do what you need.It would open and close the door with a controlled movement, have a hold open feature and be designed to keep it from slamming shut.A number of companies manufacture various versions and the naming terminology will vary.

Your biggest issue is closing as many require action on your part to release such as a push forward or up etc.If these door are high or not easily reachable or accessible it may be more difficult to find a version that will work for you.
