After working fine for four years one of the burners on my Dacor PGM365S cooktop is producing a large yellow flame that is depositing soot on the bottom of our pots & pans. Dacor tech support is no help and finding a qualified repair person is a problem here in northern New Mexico. Any advice on how to fix this is much appreciated. Getting into the guts of the cooktop isn't obvious, so advice on how to open up the cooktop would be appreciated as well.

Hello mhundley. Welcome to the Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
I am not all that familiar with the brand but the condition of yellow burner flames specific to one burner is not all that uncommon.
The most likely cause is some type of debris restricting the secondary air opening on the burner tube to that specific burner.
There is an air intake shutter (usually adjustable) at the back of the gas tube going to that burner. On the tube is the air opening. Likely to be restricted. Or the inside of the tube may be restricted. Any restriction in air flow into the air shutter will produce a yellow flame.
You'll likely need to remove the burner to inspect the inside of the air tube, if there are no external visible signs of an obstruction on the tube at the air shutter.
In order to access the burner and the tube supplying gas to the burner, you'll need to find and or determine a way to lift or remove the stoves top lid. Not sure how that is done.
Read the sticky note. Contains info on how to clean burners and air shutter openings, etc.

Restricted burner ports, holes and/or slots on the burner head can or will also cause large yellow flames. The openings in the burner head often can become clogged or restricted by spill overs....:eek: Clean per the instructions explained in the sticky note.
"Be sure the electrical power and the gas supply to the appliance is turned off, before attempting any repairs. Always check for gas leaks whenever the appliance is moved and/or a repair includes any connection of a gas part."
