Im hooking up from a white rodgers to a new hunter my wiring looks like this.
White rodgers
Wht - O (Energized in Cool Mode)
Grn - G (Fan on call for cool and heat(if Electric)
Ylw - E/W1 (Emergency heat relay)
Red - R (24 Volt)
Blu - C (optional 24 Volt (common)

I hooked it up to the hunter like this
Wht - Y (air conditioning)
Grn - G (Fan)
Ylw - W (Heating)
Red - RH/RH (Jumped 24 volt)
Blu - Not used common

Everything seems to work except the air doesnt get that cold and the temp stays reading at 90F. When i switched the white and yellow the heat came on for cool and colder air for heat.

Optional Information:
Make : Hunter
Model : 44110

Make: white-Rodgers
Model 1F85-277

I am afraid you got the wrong t-stat, and will have to take it back. Also, get a real t-stat like Honeywell RTH7500 or RTH7600.

Hunter makes great fan, but not t-stat.

Come back and let me know what you got. Also, what's wrong with the old t-stat?

Color codes vary, my pic only displays a possible color combination... But you did not list a Y terminal in your existing wiring post.

What model is your outdoor unit?
