My brother and I are building our mother a house to replace the one that was damaged in the floods last summer. The house is round(20 8X8 panels) and the floor level is 7 feet above grade. The floor system is 80 16'' deep web trusses that span out from the middle. Most mechanicals will be run underneath the house and we are planning on capping and sealing the joists with green plywood. My question is, what would be the best way of insulating the floor to; 1. keep the pipes from freezing. and 2. make the house as efficient as possible? The energy star site says 25-30r for floors but I'm not sure that will be sufficient. The house has 2x6 walls and we are intending on r30 in the walls, and a cathederal cieling throughout so we are aiming for r50-r60 in the roof.
