Carpentry and Woodworking - Black door paint chipping at edges where it meets door stop

Hello, we have just painted our interior doors black and have white trim for the door trim, door jambs and door stops. Well after only about 2 weeks the black paint on the door edges where it meets the door stop is chipping off. I don't think it is because it's hitting the door stop, I think when it's closed it presses against the white paint and bonds to the door because the white trim paint is also sticking on to the door. Any solutions on how tor resolve this? We spent so much money on these doors and we want to preserve them.

Did you use latex enamel? many latex enamels don't dry hard enough and when compressed against the weather strip or door stop they stick resulting in some of the paint being pulled off :eek::wall:

The best fix would be to repaint with either oil base or waterborne enamel. Waterborne would be best for the white trim because it doesn't yellow over time like white oil base enamel does. Did you remember to paint the top and bottom edge of the doors?

The paint was Behr flat white paint, the one you would buy at home depot, any reason that would happen?

It would be unusual for flat latex paint to stick but if the black is a latex enamel, it can still stick. Tightly closing doors is part of the problem but the use of waterborne or oil base enamel normally prevents the sticking problems.

Why would you use a flat white on the woodwork? it is better to use an enamel [any sheen]. Besides making the woodwork look nicer it also cleans up better.
