There are two areas that require immediate mitigation, and subsequent permanent repair. My roof is a standard slope gable with plywood sheathing and composite shingles.
At area (1.) there is a small hole, and at area (2.) there is a delamination.
1. Flying squirrels chewed through the plywood sheathing near the soffit and were traveling through the underlayment overlap (30# felt) and shingles. There does not appear to be a tear in the underlayment and a loose shingle was secured.
2. A large knothole in the veneer, at the edge of a seam, fell out of the interior (attic) side of the sheathing. That section is starting to delaminate.
At both areas there is water staining to the sheathing in the attic. As of yet, there is no damage/dampness to the insulation or sheetrock ceiling.
For a stop-gap measure, would more harm than good be caused by troweling a rubberized roof patch to either area? I understand that this is not a permanent repair to either area.

The patch work is fine but it has to be done from the top, not from inside the attic.
