I am planning on laying vinyl tile (menards) on top of a cushioned Linoleum (cushion is 1/4" thick rubbery material) which is in good shape just discolored over time. The expert a menards suggest that it is alright to do it, that it will not crack or break, several posts suggest removing the linoleum and go to the bear wood for stability. What are the risks?
Top Layer - Sheet linoleum
Next Layer - Glue
Next Layer - 1/4" yellow cushion
Next Layer - Glue
Next Layer - (1) PressWood 1" thick
Next Layer - (2) PressWood 1" thick
Top Layer - Sheet linoleum
Next Layer - Glue
Next Layer - 1/4" yellow cushion
Next Layer - Glue
Next Layer - (1) PressWood 1" thick
Next Layer - (2) PressWood 1" thick

No expert..but if you are talking about the thick VCT (?) tile...I think it should be on a solid backer. If you are talking about peel and stick tiles..expect the joints to open up as it's walked on.
Never really heard of linoleum on a cushioned back..maybe its sheet vinyl?
Don't always trust the Big Box "experts"..they only know what they have been told in most cases...and they need to sell sell sell!

Hi Ernes,
The closest Menards to me is about 100 miles away. I was told Menards' clerks are likely to know their products a bit better than the other two big box stores. However if they told you to go over what you've described, you can't trust them either. :wall:
Tell me about this 1" thick "presswood". There is no such thing as presswood. Is it particleboard or OSB? When was the home built?
