I am planning to paint some cheap laminate shelves. My plan is to lightly sand, paint with BIN primer, then paint with a couple of coats of SWP ProClassic Interior alkyd enamel.

Any reason this wouldn't work? Is there any problem painting the enamel over the BIN primer?

Thanks,
Jenn

BIN can be top coated with most paints including the proclassic oil base enamel. Make sure the laminate is clean before you prime and it should come out ok - the paint job might be worth more than the laminate :D:p

Oh, it will be - I'm trying to match existing furniture or I would just toss the shelves!

Should I sand after applying primer, or can I just paint once the primer is dry?

It's almost always a good idea to sand between coats. A quick scuff sand with 220 grit is all you need.
