My husband and I are trying to save some money buy building our own wood burning stove hearth. We know the hearth has to be at least 4 inches off the floor, but we don't know how to get started we were told to use Dura-rock for the floor becase it is fire proove. We also need to know how to build a non-combustiable wall, we know this wall must be 1 to 2 inches build on top of he existing drywall so the air can circulate and we are again supposed to use dura-rock. The purpose of the wall is so we can put the woodburner as close as possible in the corner. We are putting this woodburning stove in the corner on the north side of our family room. What we really need to know is what material to buy and how to measure and start cutting the hearth and the wall.
