Our house is 100+ and the motar between the stones in the basement is crumbling. We are not worried about structural problems, however this crumbling is creating a water problem which appears to be getting worse. Is this something we can fix ourselves or is working with limestone a job for a specialist?

You can try some hydroulic cement but chances are, the problem has to be addressed from the outside. Remove what's loose, mix the cement & fill the spaces.
Outside, make sure that the gutters are clean & the downspouts are far enough away from the house. Also, make sure the ground is pitched away from the house. At last resort, you'll have to expose the foundation to the footing & seal it.
