I just installed the RTH7600D, I'm not sure if I set the temp settings correct.
I have a Trane heat pump and gas furnace.
What I want to do is set the auto change over for heat and cool. The operating manual isn't very clear on temperature settings. Ideally I'd like to maintain an even temperature at around 75F all day everyday. I was lead to believe this thermostat would do that. So I took out a Trane weathertron to keep my wife from short cycling the AC.

You need to go into the program setting set the heating temp to what you want the heat at, and set the cool temp set to what you want for cooling.
The operating manual isn't very clear on temperature settings. Ideally I'd like to maintain an even temperature at around 75F all day everyday.
If you want to keep the temp all the same, you then need to press the "HOLD" button to permament hold. Then it won't run the program mode.
What I want to do is set the auto change over for heat and cool. I was lead to believe this thermostat would do that.
Setting #300 set to 1. With the Auto change over, it will only allow 3˚ temp between heating and cooling. So if you want cooling at 75˚, heat will only be at 72˚ If you bump the heat up to 75˚, then the cooling gets moved to 78˚.
So I took out a Trane weathertron to keep my wife from short cycling the AC.
not sure what you mean by this?
These are the settings I'd suggest.
170-7
180-0
190-0
240-3
270-3
300- 1
500-1
530-1

Jay, Now I'm sure this auto change over is the way to go after all. What I was trying to accomplish was an automatic heating and cooling setup so my wife would not keep adjusting the thermostat. I just installed the rth7600 today and set the cool on permanent hold at 73F and it maintained the temp. What I was having to do with Trane weathertron when I needed to change from cool to heat was readjust the temp from 73 to 77 and vice-a-versa. So I guess what you are telling me is that to set the system for the temps each for cool and heat and then put in auto? Is this crazy, now I'm not sure my thinking isn't backwards. Another question, the heat pump operates in heat mode above a certain outside temp, approx 40F, then switches over to the furnance (emergency heat), this thermostat does not change that does it? The short cycling thing was something that I think happened this summer when the condencer shut down then we were able to restart after a period of time.

Correct. When you are in program mode, check off all 7 days, and then go though all the steps of what you want the temp at.. You'll see Heat flash, and then cool flash that's where you set the temps of what you want on cool or heat.

Guess I don't know what is outisde to control this.. If there is something out there, then yes.
I do want to add, is that there is still TONS of heat in the air when it's 40˚ outside. If you know there is a set point, change it down to say 30˚

Oh ok.. That's what I thought. The t-stat has a 5 min timer to keep it off if it was to cycle off and on again right away.
