I painted the legs of my dinning room table and chairs a satin black, leaving the table top and seats the natural wood. I want to go over the whole thing with tung oil, to refresh the wood and to give the painted areas a sleeker appearance. Is this a good thing??? thanks

Tung oil is NOT reccomended for application over any other finish.
It is a great finish for raw wood, or wood that has been stained. Generally, a minimum of two coats are suggested - follow the mfg's directions. The more coats you apply the glossier the finish.
If you want a shinier appearance on the painted parts of your set, I would suggest a good wax (Guardsman and Brie come to mind) or repainting with a shinier product.
