Hello,

I have a 330 DeVilbiss Air Compressor that I acquired from the service station where I worked as a teen. I put it in my parents shed. A year ago my mother called and told me it had begun making "bad" noises while running so the next time I visited I unwired it to avoid any further damage. Now, several years later, I am on an extended visit home and want to fix it.

The Compressor:
330 Devilbiss Serial #269357
1.5hp Westinghouse motor 115/230v
Tank is vertical and large (tank+compressor = taller than 6'1")

So, if determining the problem requires disassembly, will I be able to acquire replacement parts or gasket sets?

Does anyone know how these old compressors are put together? I ask because I think i could make the replacement gaskets if it is possible. Would regular gasket material work for the crankcase? Perhaps copper gaskets for the head?

Thanks

Gaskets are not a problem, you can make them yourself. But if it was making "bad" noises, you can bet that it's more than just a blown gasket. Now, things like rings, bearings and wrist pins should all be standard and, therefore, availabe. Even valves and springs can be replaced. But a crankshaft, conrods, pistons and cylinders are probably all very specific to this model and, given the age of the pump, are impossible to find if need replacing. Take a hard look at what you'd need and decide if it's cost effective (or even feasable) to rebuild.

Thank you for the reply.

I am pretty sure there is a fairly major problem with the pump. I was only worried about gaskets in case I strip the thing down only to discover a simple problem.... and then be unable to reassemble the pump cheaply.

Thanks for the input on the availability about the rings and such, that is good to know.

As far as the specific components, I have a friend/machinist that used to make connecting rods for motocross racers... I am wondering if he might also be able to fabricate any piece I need at "friend discount". :)
