I'm looking to repair a number of pilings on a fresh water dock. The water line has lowered to expose the still good part of the cedar pilings I will be replacing. My thought was to place a temporary support for each pile then cut out the deteriorated part of the piling from the water line up. Once this was complete I could then place a PVC pipe over the remaining pile and file with cement. Hs anyone heard of this repair method and does it work? All comments are appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forums! You will wind up with a weak piling. Pouring concrete over an existing stub won't continue your support vertically properly. I would install the temporary support, PULL the old piling, replace with large pvc (probably 8") and force it into the old hole and proceed with your pour. What size pilings do you have now?

Oh yeah!! Putting new concrete on an old footing is a cold joint. It has less structural strength than either one of my knees!! (They've BOTH been worked on!)

Put in new footings, or at the VERY least, epoxy rebar into the old footings at angles) before you pour the new, risers.

Fresh water, WA -- are you in 'wet' side, or somewhere east of Snoqualimie??
