Since about mid-summer the well water has been organge (rusty) and smells. This occured about two weeks after putting in Morton's System Saver II pellets. Over the course of time, I have only used two bags.
I am thinking, please correct me if I am wrong, that this salt is cleaning out my system and, as a result, I am getting an influx of rust in the water.

Since then I have switched to Motron Rust Remover. The rust has not gone away. It will go away for a day after I regenerate the resin tank. But then the rust comes back. I am attemting to manually regen the resin tank as often as I can to get the Morton Rust Remover working.

This is as much as I know about anything regarding the Resin tank and the salt tank.

I have attached photo's so you see what I am working with. I do not have any manuals or anything about the resin tank.

What might be other problems? Can I change the resin in the green tank? Or buy a new one? Wait it out until the system saver pellets are gone and then the rust remover ones might clear it up.

Thanks for help. I have not a lot of money and need to try to do this on my own.

You have a Fleck 5600 meter demand unit. It looks to be a 1 cu ft unit. Here's a link for the manual: http://www.pentairwatertreatment.com/PentairFiles/Pentair%20Water%20Treatment/Manuals/5600%20Service%20Manual%2040106.pdf
The center dial is out of place. Spin it counter clockwise until the time of day window is straight down. Please post the hardness and iron amount. It's hard to say what the gallon setting should be without it.

Doesn't that tank look like an 8x44?

You're right Andy. It's hard to tell in the pic, but when I looked at it again, I focused on the brine tank. Thanks.
That's a 3/4 cu ft unit not a 1 cu ft as I stated earlier.

No problema!

I was comparing it to the width of the valve.

I went to Lowes and purchased a Home Water Quality Test Kit. On the box it states, "WHETK" and is packaged by Pro Products LLC. It cost under ten dollars.

Here are the results I got from the kit:
Iron: 4-5 ppm
Chlorine: 0
pH: 10
Alkalinity: 80 - 120 ppm -- results we between these two "colors"
Hardness: 25 grains / 425 ppm
Copper: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm

Anything to immediately worry about? Would the water be safe to bathe and possibly drink?

Any ideas on what to do next?

It's going to be real hard to take out that much iron with the small unit you have. You would be better served by installing a chlorinator, retention tank, carbon filter then a softener. You could use a bigger softener alone, but it will wear out fast.
