alrighty then, I guess everyone who meets this problem does not want to tear up the floor b/c of a small problem area. What other options do I have? I would like to just clean it and let it dry and put some patch compound stuff over it.

Its kind of far away to see. You could have a bad wax seal or just leakage from...ahhh bad aim? If its not soft rotted wood, spray it with bleach scrub a bit..then let it dry.

I think they make plates that can be screwed down around the toilet..but I'd replace the wood if it was bad.

Whats that on the floor in front of the toilet, ceramic tile or vinyl?

Before you try to figure out what to do with the plywood subfloor, you need to find out what the water source is, and fix that. Looks like a leak of some sorts, probably from the wax ring. You should pull the toilet and see whats going on there.

It is a bit hard to see.Is it real wood because it kind of looks like particle board or chip board. If it isn't solid wood you probably need to redo the floor there.

Like others said, fix the leak first and if that is wood and it's soft, spongey etc you'll have to scab in some new wood.

Not leaking, just someone with bad aim.

There is actually real wood that is the underlayment (heh I think, anyway) so I checked the price for some similar boards at HomeDepot and it was affordable. Good thing because I have to buy a sabre saw tool.. as well.

haha nice try Johnny. =) Not leaking. Well the toilet isn't anyway. haha.
Self stick tiles on the floor, which will be heated and peeled off this weekend. Ah the joy!

If the subfloor is just discolored, thats not a problem. You need to make sure the wood is not rotted and is solid. If it is solid, then you should be ok. You can treat it with bleach and water in a spray bottle to kill the mold. Make sure it drys out good before you cover it. Normally, the flooring material goes under the toilet so you may want to pull it and see if its any worse under the toilet.

So, the vinyl is coming up. Whatcha puttin down in its place?:)

The floor is very solid. I'm puttin' down Cryntel
12" x 12" Eurostone Glacier Vinyl Tile with lots of greys and tans to tie that 1980's almond color shower insert with the cool tones of the paint and the cabinet. I like that the tiles have a beveled edge. Easy to replace one when it's damaged, etc.
