Good afternoon! I just received the new Honeywell Prestige Thermostat that will be replacing a Honeywell Y594G1252 (T874G1246/Q674F1212). But the wiring is super different. I dont know were to start.
My thermostat now is wired as follow
Pink -O
yellow -Y
Black - X
Red -R
Green -G
White - W2 that has a cable that runs from W2 to the letter E.
(this is not a big deal bc on the new Honeywell they are on the same slot W2 and E)
My furnice is a 2H/1C heatpump Amana
On the new Prestige Thermostat they dont have a X slot or black cable. So what should I do about the X.
And I need a C that is a 24v cable. Can I use any of those cable for my letter C.
I can NOT run any cable to my furnice bc the thermostat is on the main floor and the furnice is in a finished basement.
HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!! =)
THANKS for any tips.

You have a unique problem that has only a few solutions I can think of.
1. Find a way to run that common/neutral wire. Its a shame someone didn't run 8 wire the first time, then you'd be all set. You could use the existing wire to fish a new one. Electricians are adept at doing this. You may also be overlooking some ways to run another wire you're missing right now. Don't forget you may be able to relocate that thermostat in a place will still work well and make it easy to fish the wire.
2. Return that tstat and get one that is battery powered, if possible.
3. Install a transformer local to the thermostat. Surely someone must make a plug in 110VAC to 24VAC power cube. Just be sure to match minimum amperage with your current transformer.
4. Look into a wireless solution. There may be some solutions there I am not familiar with.
You problem is not insurmountable as commercial building run into issues like this all the time.

Good afternoon! I just received the new Honeywell Prestige Thermostat
What is the model # on the new t-stat you got? Also why this stat vs another model from Honeywell?
My furnice is a 2H/1C heatpump Amana
What is your back up heat? Gas or Electric? I'm guessing gas since you said furnace. Is this furnace a single stage or two stage?
I can NOT run any cable to my furnice bc the thermostat is on the main floor and the furnice is in a finished basement.
HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!! =)
I may end up suggesting another t-stat once we get all the info back on my questions above.

1) The new thermostat is:
Honeywell Prestige HD YTHX9321R5003 Deluxe Comfort Thermostat System Kit.
The reason of the change is that the last one was really old and it has mercury in it. Its just mainly cosmetic change.
2) Its a 2h/1c one stage furnace heat pump.
I resolved the C common 24volts problem. I used the X (black) cable that was extra and use it as my C. (The X cable was 24volts) So it was easy and it worked.
Now my next question is:
The new thermostat ask me; What is the cycle per hr for compressor? - I put 3 and What is the cycle per hr for Aux heat? - I put 5. IS THESE CORRECT?
Thanks

And I forgot to say that I live in the upper part of Iowa and the temperatures varies in the winter form 32 F down to -40 F (super cold).
So I dont know if this affect the number of cycle per hr for aux heat.
Thanks for everything!!!!!!

1) The new thermostat is:
Honeywell Prestige HD YTHX9321R5003 Deluxe Comfort Thermostat System Kit.
Are you using the outdoor sensor on this kit?
I resolved the C common 24volts problem. I used the X (black) cable that was extra and use it as my C. (The X cable was 24volts) So it was easy and it worked
Did you check to see if the black wire was hooked up to C on the furnace??
X is a fault light, if there was something wrong with the unit, it will light up a light on the t-stat, and if for some reason this was still hooked up and there was a problem and the fault kicked in, you are going to burn out the t-stat.
Now my next question is:
The new thermostat ask me; What is the cycle per hr for compressor? - I put 3 and What is the cycle per hr for Aux heat? - I put 5. IS THESE CORRECT?
Compressor I'd suggest 2, and heat at 3.
Does it ask you if your heat is fossel fuel?

-40˚!? I just north of you and I have not seen it that cold! LOL
Does the t-stat ask for lock out? Duel fuel up stage timer?

Jay THANK YOU for your answers and your time!!! I really appreciate it! Thanks. Ok your first ? the answer is yes I connect it yesterday. *2) The X was a cable that it was connected on my old thermostat. My new thermostat do not have a X hook. On the Amana Litterature it says X or X1 or C (So I think its ok to hook it up to C) And no I have not check my furnice C. But if you think I should do it I will. *3) About the CPH Compressor and Aux Heat - 2 and 3 hum.. Do you think will be better to leave both at 3? *4) Yes it asked if it was electric or fossil. I put fossil. *5) Rochester is north west from were I just moved. I used to live in Edina, MN for 8 years and it was much coolder up there than -40. =) *6) Lock out? Dual fuel? Hum I dont think so. BUT I will check tonight. Thanks one more time for your answers and your time.

Please do! I'd hate to see you blow up that nice HD T-stat! X on Honeywell is a fault light.
*3) About the CPH Compressor and Aux Heat - 2 and 3 hum.. Do you think will be better to leave both at 3?
The A/C compressor works better when it runs longer. 2 will allow the system to run longer. I have mine set 1 since my unit now is "oversized" since we updated our windows.

I peeked at the manual, and it didn't say much about it, so figured it must shows up on the screen.

Hello Jay!
I check this morning and in the furnice the Black cable (the one in the X) is in the C slot in the furnice. I dont know why is that but like I say before in the manual it say X or X1 or C the same.
In the thermostat for setting it has lock out or so and I think it say 40 (really I dont remember to well bc it has a bunch of stuff that I dont understand)
I change the setting of cph to a 2 and 3. No problem
I have a question ? Last night I turn on the A/C and put the temp to 74. I dont know why it was running all the time. With the previous t stat was not that way. Why? May be bc this is more accurate t stat that pick up more changes in temp. Hum I dont know any thoughts? Thanks

Ok, good.. At the manual I looked at for your old t-stat ot shows X was a fault code, and then C was a common side of the X (Light), but anway, better to be safe than sorry.
In the thermostat for setting it has lock out or so and I think it say 40 (really I dont remember to well bc it has a bunch of stuff that I dont understand)
Please do ask questions if you don't understand something.
I would drop the Aux lock out to 30˚. Then turn the HP lock out to 15˚, then change timed to aux heat to 0.
I'm guessing the t-stat shows this. (The manual don't show of what I am looking at from online)

Do you recall if the t-stat was set to dehumidify? If so, what's the humidity setting on the dehumidify setting.
Did the temp get blow set point? Maybe as low as 3˚ below?

Answ.
1) Humidification and de hum. is Off in the thermostat.
2) No it dont change (temp) Its set now for 74 and even though the thermostat says 74, the A/C will run. I really dont understand. =(

It does shut off after awhile correct?
Honeywell t-stat has a tight temp control, you will not see the "swing" in temps as you may see with the other stat.
Just set it and walk away.
In the background (Not seen) the t-stat is doing the math of how long the system should run for temp control.

Next question
345 - Dual fuel heat pump control gives you this option
1)Balance Point only
2)Balance point plus +2 degrees
3)Balance point and aux heat
If I choose 2 it gives me option 350 that is HP Compressor Lockout/balance point and I have it now as 20 degrees.
I I choose 3 it gives me option of controling the HP lockout temp and Aux lockout temp (we talk about this one before of 30 and 15)
My question is wich one is the best one to choose? 2 or 3
Next question
346 - Dual fuel heat pump upstage to furnace
It says Timer 60 min as default. Is that ok

Yes I have it in 2 now. And its in 20 degrees.
I dont understand the 40 degree part bc it only gives you one option and I have it in 20 dg.

20˚ is the compressor lock out, it will switch over to the furnace itself to heat the home.
40˚ is the gas furnace (Aux) lock out, the heat pump can keep up just fine when it's above this temp.. Also with HP, you are best to set it and forget it.

If I choose option # 2 like you say that I should choose,(balance point plus +2 dg) it does not give me the option to set the aux lockout temp. Only gives me the option of (HP Compressor Lockout/balance point and I have it now as 20 degrees.)
If I choose Option #3, then it gives me the option to change the HP and AUX heat lockout temp.
So option #2 only can change the HP Compressor Lockout,
option #3 can change HP and Aux Lockout temp
Thanks
If I choose Option #3, then it gives me the option to change the HP and AUX heat lockout temp.
So option #2 only can change the HP Compressor Lockout,

Is this correct?
