I have a screened in porch that I am going to enclose. Presently the porch is supported by cement block columns which rest on footings. Between the columns, there is nothing. I need ideas on how to enclose the area; no further structural support is necessary but I need something that keeps the weather and mother nature outside. I am a slightly gimpy 50-something woman and plan to do the work myself so would prefer not to mix cement and butter blocks if I can avoid it. Any ideas? Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!

Are you sure you have enough support? there will be more weight on the block columns once the porch is enclosed. Are the footers deep/big enough?

I'm partial to masonary because it won't rot and you don't want wood products having contact with the ground. You might could use some type of mobile home underpinning to close off between the support columns.

My husband and I built this house 6 years ago and the footings are to code....in fact we have overbuilt. So it should not be a problem. I really don't care for mobile home underpinning....was thinking of using some sort of faux stone but I assume that has to attach to plywood. Is there any way of framing using pressure treated then attaching the faux stuff to maybe some hardiplank siding?

I would suggest vinyl latticework. I think Veranda makes this in many different colors. I use it to "finish" off the crawl space created by our porch. They also make vinyl channel moldings that the lattiework snaps into and enables mounting to the porch. Also easy to construct a "hanging" gate of the latticework to lift off and allow access below.
