I recently purchased an older travel trailer (75' Shasta) for cheap. It has had water leakage in the past that has left the ceiling in need of replacement. What type of structure (wood or metal) does this normally consist of. I have yet to tear down the covering. Any suggestions from those who have done this before?

Unless someone has intimate knowledge about your particular model you would do well to just open up the ceiling and look.

A few older campers I have owned had wooden framing in the ceiling and if yours is as well you may have to replace some joists.
On a ceiling I repaired the center of the ceiling joists were rotten but I was able to leave them in place and sister another along side.

Thanks , this helps. This will be my project for the up coming weekend. One more question; if I find that the side panels are rotten also, can I rip out to the metal siding without compromisng the structural integrity? Again, this is my first venture into trailer renovation.
