I have replaced the brushes & sanded the armature for my worm drive skill saw but the arcing continues. Any advice?

Welcome to the forums! How much arcing? Arcing is normal in a brush armature situation. It may subside after the brushes are worn to the contour of the armature. If you are just seeing a little arcing when looking through the slits in the casing, it is normal. Abnormal armature to case arcing is not.

Thanks for your reply. The arcing that the saw is having is excessive compared to my other skill saws. The armature has very little ware. I am wondering if replacing the whole armature would cure the problem or is there a problem with the windings also.

Are all your other saws worm drive? They are a different animal and have a lot more torque, thus more arcing.

Yes, the other saws I have been comparing the arcing to are all worm drives. The one with the heavy arcing sounds like a stick welder. Have you ever heard of an armature being shorted out?

Yeah, the armature may look good, and clean up well, but it could be failing causing the arcing. If you have the option, I would replace the armature and the brushes as well, since they may have worn oddly on the old armature.

Thanks for the info for the arcing armature.
