I am replacing my AC compressor with a Heat Pump to have a dual fuel setup. Please help me understanding how to rewire the tstat. I'd like to keep the 8570 because it's dual fuel capable.

Current Hardware
aprilaire 8570,
bryant 352 mav 2 stage furnace,
1 stage Weather King AC

New Hardware
York YZB 1 stage HeatPump

Current Wiring

As you can see, I'm unsure about the various Heating connections

Wire it up as you see on Fig. 11 of the York's manual.

Do you have the bonnet sensor?

No bonnet sensor, what does it do ?

wiring confusion arises because
My thermostat has no Y, W, X/L, E
What do they do ?

My Furnace has no Y, X/L

in fact my setup is closer to figure 10. The differences are probably due to my thermostat & furnace not being a York.
My furnace has no Y or X/L

Would ignoring these connections work ?
Just wiring W1 out & W2 out from the heat pump to W1 & W2 on the furnace ?

thanks

YOur furnace has no Y?

I am on my way out the door to work, and I'll try to post back on my lunch(supper) break otherwise, will be after 9 tonight.

Are you in Rochester MN?

my furnace has Y1 , & Y2
York figure 11 shows Y, Y1 , & Y2
I think that I can wire Y1 -> Y1 -> Y1 from stat to furnace to HP
I am looking more for clarification on the W1s & W2s.

Rochester Michigan

after 9pm is fine, I appreciate all the help

Ok, Thanks for waiting for me to get back to you this late, had to work late today.

T-stat---Furnace-----HP
C----------C----------C
Y1---------Y1--------Y1
O----------O---------O
W1-------------------W
R----------R----------R
W2--------W1-------W1out
Nothing---W2-------W2out
G----------G

Once this is all wired up, then you need to go to page 7, section VIII, "Control set up" For best comfort, Set it to "Hot Heat pump"

Also, check your control board on the furnace to make sure the blower is set to match the tonnage of your HP unit.. Also, make sure it set to 400 cfm per ton.

No bonnet sensor, what does it do ?

Read up on it on page 17.

Thanks Jay
It is starting to make alot of sense. the thermostat does the calling for heat or cooling & the HP circuit board controls the various stages from HP heat through stages 1 & 2 on the furnace when more btus are required. Is that correct ?

The role of W on the hp is not yet clear to me. can u explain its function ?

the york page shows
T-stat---Furnace-----HP
O---------------------O
leaving the furnace out of the loop. Why is that done ?

thanks mark

Correct.

W is getting power from the t-stat on call of heat, then the HP board then will send power out on W1out, and W2out to the furnace of what stages it needs to run in.

The Y1 and Y2 will control the blower speed for the heat pump, if it was jsut a standard system, then O is wired up on the board to tell the blower to slow down to give warmer air in heating.

thanks again Jay

How does the HP know when to turn on W2Out ? Is there an internal HP timer ? I can't see how the HP would know that W1 isn't meeting the demand.

My 100K bryant 352MAV furnace circuit board does not allow for CFM control, Can I assume that the CFM will be in range for a 4T york HP ?

regards

Starting on page 13 tells how everything can work. On page 16 table 10 tells how it all calls for back up.
