i am wanting to know if it is possible to run 2 seperate a/c units on 1 single thermostat so the units will turn on and shut off at the same time

You could, but relays will be needed.
Why are you looking at doing this?
Is the A/C on it's own Air handler/furnace or is it one air handler/furnace with two seperate condensor/A-coil?

well first let me explain that i am not an a/c guy, i am trying to help out a friend that just purchased a sports bar and got ripped off from the guy who was originally doing the work and now he is in a bad situation. what happened is the guy/guys who did the work did a half ass piss poor job from the get go, they had the duct work all wrong (ex:the duct work was completely wrong, they had wholes big enough to put your hand in, no tape on the vent branch offs, and they had rigged up the 2 units which have 3 supplies into 1 single duct....and basically the attic space is getting more air than the bar itself. i am trying to do what i can to fix this for him but i have very little experience in this matter. i have done commercial build outs for about 6 yrs and then got into glazing store front glass for about 4 1/2 yrs now. i catch on quick but thats with someone showing me what needs to be done. with this i am kinda teaching myself and its not one of those things i want to be doing trial and error if you know what i mean.
so i talked to some people and got lined out with the duct work for the most part but tim (the owner) wants for the units to start and stop as one and i dont know what needs to be done to make that happen and he cant afford to pay anyone to fix it. i am doing this for free but need some help in doing so

and as for the 2nd question i can tell you that there are 2- 6ft x 3ft units inside the building that are side by side and then there are 2 thermostats on the wall about 2 inches apart

If the stats are that close together then the units should be pretty much running together.
The idea of wiring one stat to both units sounds easy enough but the transformer wouldn't be able to handle it. Like Jay said it could be done with relays though. Not sure if I would have enough time to draw a diagram for you anytime soon, maybe someone else could.

Do you know if the unit is cool only or is it heat and cool units?
Also if it a heat and cool, is the heating side gas heat or heat pump?

keep it simple .....just relocate the thermostat away from the other one, even opposite ends of the place to cover the overall space(if the return is ducted from the further area).when you get a crowd in on a sunday football day the staging won't matter.the unit will run full out to handle the walk in load then cycle in an open room area 65F ...68F isn't going to matter on either setting with an active crowd.the location now seems to be sensing the returns back to the air handlers as all stats location control should do...keep in mind if this guy has a problem with the units a tech coming in might butcher the relay add on to get the units to runBeer 4U2Beer 4U2Beer 4U2
