Hello,
I am new here, kinda found this page when searching on Google. I was wounder if anyone could help me on this problem we are having here.

Okay well at my dad's house we never had good pressure. But last week we lost just about all the water pressure we have. This is what it is doing, when there is no water running the water pump will kick on and it will build up pressure to 40psi and stop(witch it what the switch is set to) but lets says we turn on the washer and run some water in the sink it will start to drop. since we have a 20-40 switch for the pump (came with new pump) when the psi drops to about 20psi the pump will kick on. But the thing is when the pump kicks on it loses about 5-10psi. When this happens it will never get back up to 40psi. We have replaced the water pump almost all the piping going to and from the pump. The tank is holding pressure and they said the balder on the tank seems to be fine too. we had a plumber look at it and he said it could be foot valve or something ( said it was the pipe in the well that moves the water into the house). I am trying to see if it could be anything ells before digging it up.

anything help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Stokes

Well i wanted to edit my first post but it would not let me edit more than once. here is the edited post

Hello,
I am new here and found this page when searching on google. I was wounder if anyone could help me with this problem. We are running a NEW ¾ HP shallow well pump that came w/ a 20/40 pressure switch. The pump sits less then 15 from the well. The pipe from well to pump is only a ¾ inch galvanized pipe. I understand that 1” is preferred.

We have never had good water pressure, last week we lost just about all the water pressure. This is what it is doing, When we turn on the washer and the sink the pressure will start to drop from 40 PSI. When the pressure reaches 20 PSI the pump kicks on at which time the water pressure will drop about an additional 5-10 PSI. It will slowly climb to about 20 PSI lintel all water in the house is turned off. Once everything thing is turned off it will very slowly climb back to 40 PSI. This was happening w/ the old pump even more, which prompted the purchase of the new pump. We had a plumber look at it and he said it could be a blockage between the well and pump. I am trying to see if it could be anything else before digging things up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Stokes

I'm not a well guy but all my homes have had wells. Deep and I installed my own sand point for the barn.

Do you know how deep the well is? Is it a sand point? As you all ready pointed out 3/4" is not a lot a volume to work with. I have a sand point that is 13' down and I even have a 1 1/4" pipe. You might be better off installing a bigger pipe.

Actually, the pipe from the well to the suction side of the pump should be, at least, as big as the suction port. A 3/4" suction line is probably starving the pump for water. A 3/4" galvanized pipe could be corroded, which could starve the pump even more.
I'd take a look at the suction line first, and change it if you can, then see how things are working. You could have a bad footvalve, too.
