Hi All,

This is my first post on this forum. I just bought a home a few months ago, so I'm ready to get to fixing things up. I'm excited to get some things done.

So my first question has to do with a room that I believe was once a porch that was enclosed. It has begun to sink a little and you can tell it's not very level. I'd like to get it leveled out and I was curious what my options are. Does it make sense to have it jacked up and have a concrete slab poured underneath it? Or are there better options?

Also, what's the best way to find a contractor to do a job like this? Are there resources available to search for contractors?

Thanks everyone.

Chris

Hi Chris and welcome,
I assume it is over an unheated crawl space, thus in NY you will have to deal with frost. First job is to determine what is shifting, the old supports or the wood framing. If it is the old supports, why? Were the posts or whatever simply set on pads? Take a look and use a string or level to get an idea as to what has moved and why. Pictures would also help. Photobucket.com and post the link over here with the link tab above.

Yes, before you can attack leveling it, you have to know WHAT has shifted. Waiting for photos so we can see how it was constructed.
