I have two H2000C Genie openers (Chain drive), I had lightning smoke a tree close to my house. After resetting breakers and GFI's, I have power to both outlets that the openers are connected to.

One opener is functional, but when the button is pressed to close it only thinks about it, then proceeds to open itself up again. If you hold the button all the way to the bottom it will close. The sensor blinks twice and pauses, which means either misalignment (not the case) or defective/interference.

Second opener, oh boy... When I reset the GFI in my garage, it proceeded to open to my delight. Once there, because totally non-functional, making a nice humming sound, eventually shutting off. No lights, no sensor lights, no response. The one side of the garage door opener got pretty warm too, noticeably warm. I know lightning is hell on these things, but why would it open, then cease to respond?

Leads me to think that it may have some kind of internal fuse or breaker? I see it has a thermal protector? I'm lost, I guess . Wondering if anyone has any guidance before I'm able to call the hotline tomorrow?

Thanks in advance.

I had one that was getting warm as ir it were straining, then doing nothing. I lubricated the long pipe where the chain pulls the door & it worked fine. The original problem had nothing to do with lightning. The owner clipped the door rail with his car. The point is, no one ever greases those things.

You still may have to shut the breaker to the outlets again to reset the motors. That's always worth a shot.

For your 1st opener, the sensors are shorting or are now defective from the surge of lightning. Simple fix is to replace the beam sensors. Check your local home depot or lowes. They typically carry Genie products in store. You can also get them here: guardianentrysystems.com.

Opener number 2 could have a blown capacitor. Typical symptom is the "humming" while trying to open. Definitely need more info, but there are other parts that cause a "humming" such as RPM sensor, I believe. Might have to take the systematic approach and begin with capacitor, RPM sensor, then circuit board. Rule out the obvious parts 1 by 1.
