Hi there,
I have a comfort glow vent-free gas log heater for my fireplace. It has never been used, but I bought it off a guy that had it stored in his garage for a year. The pilot woudn't light so I thought there might have been some oxidation inside the line, so I bought a new one (which came with a new thermocoupler). Unfortunately it still won't light but gas now gets through the line. I moved the gas control valve to pilot and pushed it in. Gas comes out and I hit the electronic ignitor. It makes a good spark but it won't light. So I took a lighter to the pilot. Out comes what seems to be a high pressured blue flame like a mini torch. When I remove the light only gas flows, & I have tried to hold the lighter there for a very long time. At to which point the thermocoupler has been heated enough that I can turn on the main burners and light them manually, but as expected they shut off as soon as the thermocoupler cools back down. I thought maybe too much gas was coming out and the pressure was putting out the pilot, so I turned the emergency shut off valve between on and off, but it only made the pilot a weaker blue flame and it still won't completely light. I've ran out of ideas, any suggestions? If it helps the model number is CGS2718P. Thanks

Not an expert, but it sounds like the pilot light flame adjustment needs tweaking. You should have a gentle flame which bathes the thermocouple, not a blowtorch flame.

The pilots on vent free gas fireplaces are adjusted from the factory and should not need adjusting. Are you on natural gas or propane? Are you sure you got the correct pilot assembly?

Vent free gas logs can be a great source of heat when properly installed, but they are precision devices and should not be installed/maintained by the DIYer. They can be very dangerous when installed/used improperly. Call a professional.
