We purchased a home and it has carpet in one bath and the kitchen, not just any carpet. This stuff has been glued down . How do I remove this and what do I need to do before I can put down another flooring.

cut floor in 12" strip ,start in a corner with a pair or plyers grab the carpet nap and pull up . cut smaller strips if becomes to hard 8"-6"-4" or cut bigger if is easy to pull up. you'll probably need to put 1/4" plywood down after removel depending on what new finsh floor you put back down.
