Carpentry and Woodworking - Custom Hardwood floor

Hey all,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but i am making my own hardwood floors. yea you heard me right, MAKING my own floors. :o

Anyway, i am currently milling the T&G on the edges of the boards and am debating on whether or not to T&G the ends.

I wondered what your thoughts were on the importance of end-matching.

Obviously im sure they don't hurt, but i wondered if they were necessary being the boards will be nailed/stapled every ~8 inches or so.

My floor is 3/4" Hickory 4" plank ~1100 sq ft. (so i wont be heart broken if i dont have to end-match:))

I would T&G the ends, but there is no way to match grain on 1100 sq ft of floor, even if it is from the same tree. Make sure it is dry, and leave in the room where it will be installed for 4-6 wks.

Yes T&G the ends and leave a gap at the end of each run near the wall that equals the board thickness for expansion.
