How do I figure a roof angle and or pitch for my roof? I think I get the whole 3/12 thing but do not understand how to make the two cuts that I need to make. I have pretty much no woodworking exp. but am a quick to learn type person. Trying to save some money and build my own shed but don't want to end up buying a bunch of lumber cause of mistakes any help to understand this would be great. Thank you.

Hi effrin, the angle cuts are easy, but there are a lot of little details that can cost you time and lumber if you don't lay things out correctly to start. Google 'shed plans' and that might give you something all calculated out, or pick up a book on building sheds.

As for the angle, take an "L" shaped rafter square and find 3" one direction and 12" the other. Hold those two points along the board you want to cut so that you can draw a line where you need it. You can also take a scrap or wood and make a triangle 3x12 with the slope you need. Use that to mark your wood.

Hey, have a good time.
