Outdoor Power Equipment and Small Engines - John Deere L110 17.5 HP Kohler Won't Crank

Ran the 5 year old, 300 hours of use, JD lawn tractor recently. No problem. Tried to start it today and NOTHING.

The positive battery terminal was really dirty under the rubber cup. Look at the terminals every use but not under the cup! Cleaned both terminals with dry tooth brush. Charged battery for 3 hours even though the charger said it was charged. Changed the 20 amp fuse even though it looked good. The spark plug wire was plugged correctly. Battery measured 13+ volts across terminals on meter.

Lights came on slowly the first time and then immediately thereafter. Assume this was just bulbs warming up.

Still no cranking at all. Did have my foot firmly pressing the brake pedal and I was sitting on the seat when turning the key. The PTO was not engaging the blades. It does have gas.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.:wall:

Did you take the terminals off and clean the connections? Sounds like they are corroded and losing connection. Especially with the slow lights symptom (regular incandescent lights don't have any kind of "warm up" time).

Cheese!!!! That was the problem! The positive terminal bolt/nut were corroded through. I cleaned up both terminals with baking soda and replaced the bolt/nut set on each and it started right up. Thank you!Beer 4U2
