I have already laid down the sheet of vinyl and am wondering if it would be advisable to trim it with painted 1/4 round INSTEAD of using double sided tape... or is that a bad idea? Do I need the tape regardless?

I would imagine that if the install instructions call for it..you need it. Shoe mould or 1/4 round will expand and contract and may or may not hold the edges well. Works great for covering the gap at the wall though.

no def not . over time the vinyl will "walk" that meaning the vinyl will start to shift away from your entrances, doorways, and hallways, and will start to bouble agenst the opposite walls in front of your 1/4 molding
