Just finished my buddy's deck today. He wants to keep the natural cedar color. What's a good recommendation for maintaining this deck.
Waterproof now? Stain in the spring?
Is there a certain kind of stain to keep it this color for as long as possible?
Thanks for any advice.

Staining it with Super Deck (or similar) will seal it. but that's a transparent or semi-transparent, so it'll have to be redone every year or so to help maintain the natural color. But over time, no matter what transparent or semi-transparent you use, the deck will eventually start turning gray.

That's actually what I thought.
So should he get some color on there before it turns gray?

If he wants to keep it the color it is now, he better get it sealed before the first rain.

Too late for that, we laid the decking Tuesday, it rained Wed. and Thurs.
Sealed, meaning weatherproofed?

Super Deck, Sikkens, Cabots, -- any deck stain is also a sealer.
As long as the wood is dry (after the rain you got last week), it'll do fine. If the wood is still moist when you apply the stain/sealer, the finish will be blotchy.
