I am looking for a shrub or plant that will thrive in my desert landscape yard in Arizona. Please exclude wild desert plants or cactus. Can someone think of three names that have these qualities:
-hardy and able to withstand intense heat and sun
-drought resistant
-needs little water
-has blossoms or flowers
-pest or disease resistant
I am thinking Bougainvilla for one. Thanks

Oleander grows here without almost any care. More water=more blooms..but they still grow.
I'm up north in Kingman..may be different down in lower hotter areas.

Thanks Gunguy. I am looking up Oleander now on the Internet. I am in Phoenix. Both desert environments except yours is Mojave?

Yeah...yer much hotter normally..and drier...but we took out our sprinkler system last year..and watering every 3 weeks or so seems to be fine.
I'd contact the Master Gardener program down there..see what they recommend.

I am reading about Oleander on Wikipedia. Yep, I have definitely seen this on yards in Phoenix.
