I'm not sure this is the right forum for my question but it seems to be as close as I can get. I would like to how to replace a broken handle on a long handled shovel. I need to know (in detail) how to remove the broken portion of the handle from the shovel. I think if I can accomplish this, installing the new handle should be self explanatory..... hopefully!

Thanks in advance for any welcome advice....buzcar

I don't know if there is an easy way :wall:

I've cut the handle just above the shovel and drilled a series of holes until I could get all the wood out. Seems like there's a rivet that needs to be removed..... but it been a long time since I've replaced a handle:D:p:D

As someone who has sold handles and shovels for many years, unless this shovel for some reason is special or particularly meaningfull to you just replace the whole shovel. The price of a handle plus what you might value your time for the job is not worth it.A handle will be at least ten dollars and maybe more and yes it's not an easy job.

Thanks for the quick replies. Unfortunately, I kind of expected that type of answer. I guess I was just hoping there was an easy way to do it. Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and buy a new shovel!

Don't throw the old one out til you check out new ones! If this is a good US made shovel it may indeed be worth replacing. You can put a FG handle on and never have to do it again.

Depending on the shovel..you might spend $35-45 for a quality new one.

Fiberglass.

Is the shovel particularly nice or expensive?

Yep..as david said...I wouldn't do it on most shovels..but there are some..heck yeah I would.

Really..if you have a grinder or Dremel, and a few hand tools..it could be a 10 min job..depending on where it broke.
