I have a 1999 vw passat that i am running a 12 inch JL W3 powered by a mtx 1500 watt amp. Then for my door speakers i have a Eclipse 500 watt 4 channel amp. It was working good for about 7 months, then i decided to pull everything out to carpet my box. Now i installed everything and when i turn on my stereo and the car is running i hear a squeal that changes pitches as a accelerate. The only change i did was i put a brass connector on the ground. Even if i pull it off it still makes the annoying noise. I talked to best buy and they said the rca's are too close to the power and ground so i moved them away from each other and it still makes the noise. Any ideas???

My guess is that you pinched a speaker wire somewhere against the body or ran a screw through it..

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't mess around with that at all so im sure its not that. Today I inspected all the wires to make sure they were tight and they were. I moved the ground to various locations on the chassis and it still did it. I talked to the the audio store and they said it could be the rca's so i bought new ones and it still did it. We checked my battery and its putting out 14.5 volts so thats all good. We have tried moving stuff and everything, still making the noise!! I have no clue what i should do now. Any other ideas?!!!

Years ago when cars had points in the distributor, we would add a suppressor, which was nothing more than a condenser, somewhere in the electrical system, to suppress the noise but your case is different. The problem started when you uninstalled & reinstalled a portion or all of the system. That means you disturbed something.

Are you hearing the noise in all speakers & channels? Does it happen with the radio & CDs? Add a ground strap between the chassis & the engine. There should already be one there. Make sure it's tight.

Along with what Pulpo suggested, defective spark plug wires will cause interference as well.

I'm suspecting a bad ground. Ground the amplifiers and the stereo head directly to the battery. Run a 10 gauge wire temporarily to see if it solves the problem.
